Karen Nevills, FNP to replace longtime provider Dawn Scott, NP
After 23 years of caring for patients in the North Country, longtime Nurse Practitioner, Dawn Scott is retiring in April 2021. Scott is a Board-Certified adult nurse practitioner who has extensive practice experience in Northern New York since 1998. Before she joined Carthage Area Hospital, she was a primary care practitioner at Black River Medical Center. Scott began seeing patients at Philadelphia Medical Center in July 2018. Karen Nevills, FNP, formerly a provider at the Carthage Middle School-Based Health Clinic, began at Philadelphia Medical Center in February and will be the primary provider once Scott retires.
“I am thrilled for the opportunity to meet the patients of the Philadelphia Medical Center and to continue to provide care for them,” said Nevills.
Nevills graduated from Jefferson Community College in 1980 with an A.A.S. in Nursing. She continued on to work as a school nurse at South Jefferson Central School while raising her young children. As her children grew older, Nevills worked as a RN for the Cerebral Palsy Clinic in Watertown. She moved on to Samaritan Medical Center and also the infirmary at Cape Vincent Correctional Facility. By 1990, she graduated from the Nurse Practitioner Program at Community General, Syracuse, NY. She went back to Samaritan Medical Center to work in primary care, followed by employment with Jefferson Anesthesia in the Pain Management Center. Prior to working at the Carthage Middle School-Based Clinic at the start of 2020, her latest experience included 16 years of employment with Dr. John Poggi of North Country Oncology Hematology.
