New Therapists Join Carthage Hospital’s Therapy Services Team - Carthage Area Hospital

Three new providers have joined the Carthage Therapy Services Team at Carthage Area Hospital. The hospital is pleased to welcome Occupational Therapist, Cale Siver; Physical Therapist, Fran Garner; and Speech Language Pathologist, Vania Falen to its ancillary staff.

“We are very excited that these highly-skilled professionals have joined our team at Therapy
Services. They each bring their individualized skills and talents, which support our mission of
committing to healthcare excellence and value-based personal care to all who seek comfort and
healing. While we have had Occupational and Physical Therapy services available, it has been
many years since we have been able to offer Speech Language Pathology (SLP) services. We
are now able to offer adult and pediatric services focused on feeding & swallowing, language
and cognitive rehabilitation,” said Therapy Department Manager, Cheryl Tousant, PT, DPT.

Cale Siver, OTR/L

Cale received his A.S. in Health Studies in 2013 from Jefferson Community College, Watertown, NY. He went on to Utica College, Utica, NY for his B.S. in Health Studies and M.S. in Occupational Therapy where he graduated in 2017.

Siver moved to Maryland where he worked for Caroline Nursing and Rehab, Denton, MD; Anchorage Healthcare Center, Salisbury, MD; and The Pines Nursing and Rehab, Easton, MD. His career then took him to California and Arizona before finally landing in Texas in 2020 at Keller Oaks Healthcare Center, Keller, TX. Siver resides in Pamelia, NY and enjoys outdoor sports and being around friends and family.

Fran Garner, DPT, PT, ATC/L, CSCS
Garner was born and raised in Miami, FL. She attended Broward College, Pembroke Pines, FL
where she received her A.A. with a Pre-Med emphasis in 2010. Following Broward College,
Garner completed her B.S. in Athletic Training with a minor in Exercise Science at Nova
Southeastern University, Fort Lauderdale, FL in 2014. She finished her Doctorate of Physical
Therapy with a Manual Therapy Emphasis at University of Saint Augustine for Health Sciences,
Saint Augustine, FL in 2020. Garner is also a Certified Strength and Conditioning Coach.

Prior to Garner arriving to Carthage Hospital, Garner worked as a School Based Physical
Therapist for the Board of Cooperative Education Services, Watertown, NY, as well as a Skilled
Nursing Physical Therapist at Center Care Rehabilitation, Carthage, NY. She also has 5 years of
experience working as a Licensed Athletic Trainer in Orlando, FL providing injury prevention
services to high-level athletes and industrial workers. Fran currently resides in Fort Drum, NY
and enjoys running, yoga, walking nature trails, reading, tai chi, learning about preventative
healthcare, traveling and spending time with Lab retriever and husband.

Vania Falen, M.A., CCC-SLP
Originally from Ripley, WV, Falen is a speech-language pathologist with over 25 years of
clinical and administrative experience in a variety of therapy settings including hospitals,
rehabilitation centers/clinics, private practice and schools.

Falen acquired her B.A. in Speech Pathology as well as her M.A. in Speech Language Pathology
from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, TN. She’s also a member of the American
Speech/Language and Hearing Association and the Swallowing Disorders Sub-Committee;
ASHA. Falen is board-certified and currently in the process of additionally becoming a board-certified specialist in swallowing disorders.

Falen comes to Carthage from Claxton Hepburn Medical Center, Ogdensburg, NY where she’s
provided care since 2013 and continues to provide per diem coverage as well as providing per
diem services to Canton Potsdam Hospital and Saranac Lake Hospital. Her previous work
experiences include Memorial Hospital for Children, Colorado Springs, CO and Thomas
Jefferson University Hospital, Philadelphia, PA. Falen resides in Canton with her husband and a
new “empty” nest with children at UVM and Ursinus College.

ability to move, reduce pain, restore function, and prevent disability. Carthage Area Hospital
provides Physical, Occupational, & Speech Language Therapy at two outlying clinics located onsite at the hospital and at Philadelphia Physical Therapy, 32787 Route 11 Philadelphia, NY, as
well as acute & sub-acute therapy services. Our providers can help you with pain, stiffness,
muscle weakness, balancing concerns, issues with limited mobility, and so much more. Carthage
Therapy Service’s Hours of Operation: Monday-Thursday 7am-5pm, Friday 7am-3pm.
Philadelphia Physical Therapy’s Hours of Operation: Monday-Friday 7:30am-3:30pm. To
