Many men overlook subtle health concerns. That is why the Congressional Health Education program has named June as Men’s Health Month, urging guys to visit their family physicians for much-needed physicals.
Eat Better
It is something healthcare professionals have said for decades, but eat more fruits and vegetables to get in better health. By varying the fruits and vegetables in the diet, men get a wide array of vitamins and minerals that can help them ward off illnesses.
You also need to eat a diet high in protein accompanied by healthy fats. Additionally, an active man should consume between 2,500 and 3,000 calories a day.
Get Active
As your family physician is sure to remind you at your yearly checkup, you need to get moving for at least 30 minutes a day. It doesn’t have to be on a treadmill. You can run around the block, play a sport, or even lift weights.
Don’t Avoid the Physical
Most people find ways to avoid going in to be poked and prodded once a year. However, it is an important step to being the healthiest man you can be. By arranging an annual physical, your family physician can catch potential problems before they become life-threatening illnesses. Preventative care is the best way to ensure a long and healthy life.
As we celebrate Father’s Day, it is important to take a moment and assess how well you are taking care of yourself, for yourself as well as for your family. Do not be a stranger to your family physician.
