Doctor-led Walking Event Debuts April 16th at Carthage Park
A newly-established event will allow participants to engage with Carthage Area Hospital (CAH) expert providers, while enjoying a walk outdoors. As part of its Community Engagement Series, Carthage Area Hospital is introducing “Walk with a Doc,” which will debut on Saturday, April 16th at Carthage Park starting at 9am with the walk beginning at 10am.
“‘Walk with a Doc,’ is a great opportunity to jump start our health in a safe, fun, environment. This event will add a new element to our already established Community Engagement Series. Our hope is that it will be a place to get some steps, learn about health, and meet new friends,” said Dave Gunderson, Community Engagement Series Coordinator.
Participants will enjoy a provider meet & greet at Carthage Park starting at 9am followed by a 5k walk at 10am. Once completed, participants will be offered a light lunch with refreshments. The event is free and open to the public.
The first ‘doc’ to be featured will be Cheryl Tousant, PT, DPT, Doctor of Physical Therapy and Director of Physical Therapy at CAH. She joined the team at CAH in 2009 and is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association. Aside from a fondness of good food, Cheryl enjoys touring the Adirondack Park, exploring mountain peak scenery. Cheryl focuses her practice towards the geriatric population (ages 65+) and specializes in fall reduction through balance and strength training.
“I am very much looking forward to participating in this event. We have this unique opportunity to practice the fact that movement has so many health benefits. Using the phrase ‘if exercise could be bottled into a medication, it would be the #1 most-prescribed pharmaceutical,’ we can start by attending this walk and moving our bodies towards a healthier future, together,” said Cheryl Tousant, PT, DPT.
