Founded by Mental Health America over 65 years ago, the month aims to raise awareness about mental health illnesses across the country. Since then, organizations have joined the cause, putting on awareness events and activities that encourage people to speak up about sicknesses like depression, anxiety, and bipolar syndrome.

New Behavioral Health Physicians And Program

Behavioral health is another crucial branch of medical science, especially amongst children and young adults. We are happy to introduce some of our new behavioral health physicians who will join our list of committed health providers in the community.

Theresa Kiernan is our new Carthage Middle School Based Health Clinic counselor. Theresa, a SUNY Oswego alumna, has long been intrigued with mental and behavioral health. After working with underprivileged children in various environments, including homeless shelters and foster care facilities, she made it her mission to achieve her master’s degree in mental health counseling. She will be working as a mental health counselor at the Carthage Middle School Clinic.

Caleb Richter is a former Urgent Care worker with an M.S. in physician’s assistant studies from Daemen College. Caleb will work as a physician’s assistant in the Carthage Behavioral Health Clinic.

In addition to all of these new behavioral health physicians, Carthage also has a new behavioral health program for Beaver River Central School. Students will be able to receive on-site services with the help of the Carthage Area Hospital’s School Based Health Center, one of the many community services the hospital provides.
