CAH Auxiliary Donation Purchases New Patient Waiting Room Furniture - Carthage Area Hospital

Gift of $12,000 Helps to Improve Comfort for Clinic Patients, Family Members

Carthage Area Hospital’s Auxiliary recently completed a $12,000 donation to purchase new furniture for four outpatient clinic waiting rooms.

The Carthage Community Health Center, 117 N. Mechanic St., houses the hospital’s Family Practice, Pediatrics, and Women’s Way to Wellness clinics. The Auxiliary donated $5,000 in March and another $7,000 during its Annual Meeting on April 19.

The donation bought 30 full-size arm chairs and four wider bench-style chairs for use in four waiting rooms. The chairs arrived in late March and replaced original clinic furniture that was worn and reached the end of its comfortable use.

“This donation will provide comfort to thousands of patients thanks to the wonderful support from our Auxiliary volunteers,” O’Dell said. “We are grateful for their continued dedication to help upgrade equipment and resources that make a difference for our patients.”

The all-volunteer Auxiliary raises money during various fundraisers throughout the year, including its April membership drive; raffles and donations; spring geranium and fall mum sales; dinner theater; September Fiddlers and chicken barbecue; lobby sales and vending machine commissions. It donates all proceeds from fundraising activities to the hospital to provide support and purchase needed equipment, education materials and other items.

“We are pleased to be able to support the hospital’s clinics with a donation that will make patients a little more comfortable when they come for appointments,” Auxiliary President Yolanda Skvorak said.

About the CAH Auxiliary

The Carthage Area Hospital Auxiliary is comprised of men and women who volunteer to support the hospital and believe that it’s an integral part of their communities. Through their efforts, the auxiliary helps to purchase much-needed hospital equipment.

The auxiliary presents opportunities to interact with and meet new people, try out skills and uncover hidden talents to make valuable, personal contributions to help improve the hospital. How much a member volunteers is up to the individual — a few hours a day, week, or month, or on a special project.

The cost to join is minimal: $5 for regular membership; $4 senior citizen and $50 for life membership. The auxiliary also manages the hospital gift shop, which provides moderately priced merchandise for staff and patients. Contact the Auxiliary Membership Committee, 315-493-1000, ext. 5207, to learn more about becoming an auxiliary member.
