Longtime Provider Dawn Scott Now Seeing Patients at Philadelphia Medical Center
Carthage Area Hospital is excited to welcome Dawn L. Scott, ANP-BC, PNP, to lead its provider team as a nurse practitioner at Philadelphia Medical Center 32787 U.S. Route 11. She began seeing patients on July 30 and is focused on a wide range of primary care services for adults.
A native of Grafton, New York, Scott is a 1975 graduate of the Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing, Troy. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1981 at SUNY College of Technology at Utica. She earned a Master of Science in Nursing and her Adult Nurse Practitioner Certificate in 1998 from Syracuse University, where she also earned a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Certificate in 1999. She completed a master pharmacology course in 2010.
She is a Board-Certified adult nurse practitioner who has extensive practice experience in Northern New York since 1998. Before she joined Carthage Area Hospital, she was a primary care practitioner at Black River Medical Center.
From the time she was just 5 years old, Scott was convinced that she would become a nurse. “I acquired the mind of a nurse at a very young age. I’ve always been encouraged in that direction; it’s all I’ve ever known,” she said.
Scott has steadily progressed through the ranks, starting in health care as a nurse’s aide then becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse and later, a Registered Nurse. She earned a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Nursing before completing her education and certification as a Nurse Practitioner.
She credits a doctor with whom she worked in Pittsburgh, Pa., for motivating her to become a nurse practitioner. “He was very supportive and recommended it,” she said.
On providing care, Scott said the “most important thing for patients is to listen and treat them as individuals and not rush them through the system. Holistic medicine and weight management are areas of interest to Scott.
She lives in Henderson with her husband, Gregory, who works for the federal government. Together they have two grown children, Robert, of Ballston Spa, and Victor, Watertown. Victor and his wife, Stacey, have three children. Outside of practice, Scott and her husband enjoy spending “as much quality time as possible with our children and grandchildren.”
